Domestic violence is physical, mental, sexual or emotional abuse in an intimate relationship. It occurs when one person uses abusive tactics to gain power and control over a partner or former partner.

Domestic violence hits homes in every community. It has a devastating effect on victims, children, families and communities.

If you are a victim you can get help. The Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence is dedicated to serving you. Call our toll-free 24-hour crisis line. Safe shelters across the state will open their doors for you and your children. Many other services are available. There is no excuse for domestic violence.

No one deserves to be abused.

The Alabama Department of Deaf Services in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Public Health created an Emergency Preparedness PSA in American Sign Language which is available for viewing.  Windows Media or Real Player
